The Mayo Clinic also questions the significance and long-term effects of a weight-loss cleanse/detox, stating that “there is little evidence that detox diets remove toxins from the body.” If you’re thinking about going on a detox diet, consult your doctor first. It is also critical to consider potential side effects. Detox diets that restrict protein or require fasting, for example, can cause fatigue. Fasting for a long period of time can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
